What is EQAVET?

For VET Systems

The EU Quality Assurance is vocational education and training is a tool based on the 2009 Recommendation of the European Parliament and Council. The Recommendation invites Member States to use a series of indicative descriptors and indicators to support and develop their Vocational Education and Training (VET) systems. The tool provides guidance on how to develop a quality assurance system and contains examples of different approaches used by Member States.

For VET providers

The EQAVET Quality Assurance reference framework for vocational education and training is based on the 2009 Recommendation of the European Parliament and Council. Currently VET providers are using many different approaches to quality assurance. Some of these are in line with existing national or international quality assurance systems. Others have been designed to meet the VET provider's own circumstances. EQAVET is an approach to quality assurance or a reference framework for VET which has been agreed by Member States. The Quality Assurance National Reference Points across Europe play an important role in supporting the implementation of the EQAVET reference framework.

What is EQAVET in Practice?

The EQAVET in Practice is a quality model consisting of instrument and guidelines for the effective interpretation of EQAVET’s criteria to national frameworks based on the inputs from providers. The innovative nature of the model is a top-down approach to criteria, descriptors and indicators of EQAVET with a bottom-up provider need approach. The result will be a common framework with criteria which are workable and possible to implement. In this way EQAVET becomes a European tool/instrument used by VET providers with real practical impact on quality in VET.
